Penny & Skiv

It was sixty below and it wasn't. Sourdough and divine intervention served their purpose well. It was a dark and stormy knight. He answered my post about the temperature in a place called Thompson, Manitoba, where the locals hate the snowmobilers who ride down the alleyways of the town in the winter in the dark in the middle of the night. His was a sarcastic response that turned out to be the truth about a terrible tragedy. I responded that he certainly was a butthead. He took it well and didn't chew my head off.

Talk turned to sourdough and I'm not sure how this happened, but I didn't believe that a man would have a crock of sourdough starter and actually make bread, biscuits, pancakes, etc. with the stuff. We traded recipes.

Neither one of us were looking for a relationship. I'd had it with stupid heartless druggies who took advantage of my good nature. I'd given up looking for someone with an IQ smaller than the number of times he'd asked a waitress for a blow job, who wasn't afraid of hard work, who rode a Harley, and didn't have enough substances floating in his blood stream to stock Dow Chemical. Skiv, for his part, was a bitter man.

Emailing back and forth took a long time to get comfortable, but it is physically safe to get to know someone "from the inside out" instead of getting stuck on your first impression of physical appearances.

One thing led to another. We met. It was incredible. We stared at each other like long lost souls. We took to spending weekends with each other at different places in the Pacific Northwest, beautiful places but we never looked at anything other than each other.

I moved to South Dakota. Skiv typed that he would get here "even if he had to walk all the way to South Fucking Dakota barefoot." The place has been SFD ever since, but he actually drove here instead of walking, in December.

We got married a year later in May sometime and, as they say, lived happily ever after.
