Barry on Kathy Body: "She takes skin art to another dimension - almost realistic. From what I can tell she not only puts meaning in the ink, she adds passion and makes the art fit the body"

The story of Barry's tattoos:
Marilyn and I took a trip to Ireland for our 25th wedding anniversary and even with all the rain we encountered during the week we were there we really fell in love with the laid back style of the country and the culture (Guinness wasn't bad either). Around that time we were doing a considerable amount of hiking and during one of the hikes we went on around Killarney we got turned around and ended up covering 20 miles for the day. During the hike we walked through a peat bog and saw this most amazing spider web strung across a ditch and just dripping from the morning dew. I still see it in my mind - I also still remember the 20 mile hike.
Being as it was our 25th anniversary, we picked up a locally made sterling silver ring that was encraved with celtic characters. Last year I decided I wanted a tattoo and finally decided that the characters of the ring would look neat as well as be very meaningful. I talked to several tattoo shops in Calgary and went to the one I felt comfortable with. The owner was to do the work, but the day I arrived he had to rush away to an appointment and left the work to his partner who he assured me would do an equally good job. That should have been the point at which I turned away. I didn't and when it was done both Marilyn and I were not too happy with the finished product.
Around this time Andrzej and Dana started posting some of Kathy's work and my mind was made up that if anyone could make me happy - she could.
I sent pictures of the band to Kathy and then followed up with a phone call to discuss possibilities with her. My ideas were for a celtic design that would include two suns because both Marilyn and I are Leos and the sun is the ruler of Leo. I also wanted to have a spider web in the design that would flow down and into the old armband. The third thing I wanted in the design was two intertwined wedding bands to symbolize the 25th anniversary.
The first drawing she came up with was almost perfect and captured so much of what I wanted.
The shoulder piece only made the original armband look worst so I have decided to give Kathy the opportunity to finish the arm completely ( at least to the elbow). I personally could not show the tat the way it was. In my mind it was doing disservice to Kathy to have her work on top of crap. Therefore the second session to go over the first bands. The next session I believe she will be shading the area between the bands with a "metal look" so that the characters will look more encraved rather than standing out stark naked. I also want to have a small portion of the spider web extended through the band as well as a carrying it a little bit higher on the shoulder.
Anyway - next session should get rid of most of the bad stuff and be something I will be truly proud of.
